This village chapel is created in Lauscha, Germany, birthplace of the glass Christmas ornament. The Haberland family has been creating Christmas ornaments for three generations!. Mold blown from crystal tubing, the ornament is then hand-silvered in a painstaking chemical process. It is then handpainted, and glimmer powder is applied. Lauscha's four-hundred year old glass history took a temporary turn in the 20th Century, when it became part of East Germany and suffered 40 years or so under communist control. When reuinification took place in 1989 the state owned glass factory was closed, throwing many Lauschans out of work. Michael Haberland and his mother wondered, "What do we do now?", and they decided to look for grandfather's old Christmas ornament molds, which were discovered in the barn! The rest, as they say, is history. When you purchase an ornament from Lauscha, you are preserving their past while helping invest in their future, and supporting the fragile free-market economy that is trying to sustain itself there. Comes with an authenticity tag proclaiming it's European heritage and describing the Haberland tradition. Now in stock! Ready to ship! Chapel is 10 cm./3.93" tall.
